Sam Howell, UNC

Another NFL Draft option the Browns should consider is a quarterback who was once viewed as the consensus top prospect at the position. Of course, we are talking about UNC’s Sam Howell.

Howell was coming off of an impressive 2020 season, where he threw for 3,568 yards, 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions on a 68.1 completion percentage. That caused him to be viewed as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2022 draft class, alongside Spencer Rattler.

The Tar Heels quarterback’s numbers took a bit of a dip in 2021, where he recorded 2,851 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, both of which were career-lows. Additionally, he threw a career-high nine interceptions.

Howell has even had gained some buzz in the AFC North this year, as the Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly like him more than Pickett. Even though he is not viewed in the same tier as Pickett and Corral, he will warrant some consideration from NFL teams if he were to declare for this year’s NFL Draft.

Howell can really improve his stock and get additional eyes on him with a solid showing at the Mayo Bowl, the Scouting Combine and his Pro Day. The Browns should consider Howell if they are in the market for a new quarterback.
