Here are all the teams who have been eliminated from playoff contention through Week 16 of the 2021 NFL season.

Not every NFL team will be lucky enough to qualify for the postseason, as 18 will end up watching the playoffs from the couch at home after being eliminated.

With the addition of a third Wild Card spot in both conferences, it has added even more interest to the playoff race. There may only be two weeks left to play, but the better part of the league is still alive for playoff positioning. However, there are a handful of teams whose season either came to an end the day after Christmas, or it has sadly been season over for them for several weeks now.

Here are the NFL teams who have been eliminated from playoff contention in both conferences.

AFC teams who have been eliminated from the 2022 NFL playoffs

  • Jacksonville Jaguars (2-13)
  • Houston Texans (4-11)
  • New York Jets (4-11)

Thus far, only three teams have been eliminated from playoff contention in the AFC. Those teams are the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-13), the Houston Texans (4-11) and the New York Jets (4-11). These bottom-feeding teams have been out of the playoff picture for several weeks now. With no team having yet clinched a playoff berth in the AFC, the other 13 teams are all still somehow alive.

NFC teams who have been eliminated from the 2022 NFL playoffs

  • Detroit Lions (2-12-1)
  • New York Giants (4-11)
  • Seattle Seahawks (5-10)
  • Chicago Bears (5-10)
  • Carolina Panthers (5-10)

Over in the NFC, five teams have been eliminated thus far. Those teams are the Detroit Lions (2-12-1), the New York Giants (4-11), the Seattle Seahawks (5-10), the Chicago Bears (5-10) and the Carolina Panthers (5-10). Chicago pulling off a one-point victory on the road over Seattle knocked the Seahawks out of the playoff picture for the second time of the Russell Wilson era.

Though the Washington Football Team will not be eliminated with a primetime loss to the Dallas Cowboys, their season would be on life support at 6-9. Every other team still fighting for a playoff spot in the NFC has either seven or eight wins. Five teams in the NFC have clinched playoff berths with 10 or more wins, including three teams who have already won their division titles outright.

Even if these teams have been eliminated, so many other teams are still alive with two weeks left.
