Mike McCarthy’s Dallas Cowboys could be the team to ruin the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl aspirations this January.

Let’s not rule out Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys taking on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field this January with potentially a Super Bowl berth on the line.

The Cowboys and the Packers have already clinched their respective divisions with two weeks left in the regular season. With Dallas (11-4) a game back of first-place Green Bay (12-3), it would not be shocking to see the NFC playoffs run through Lambeau Field. Assuming the Cowboys win their NFC Wild Card game over a No. 5 to No. 7 seed at home, they could meet the Packers at Lambeau.

It would be the sweetest revenge if McCarthy were the one to knock the Packers out of the playoffs, whether that be in the divisional round or in the NFC Championship game on the frozen tundra.

Mike McCarthy could have his Green Bay Packers revenge game in the playoffs

Assuming the Packers handle business vs. the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions over the next two weeks, they will be the No. 1 seed in the NFC at 14-3. They would get a first-round bye and would await their opponent in the divisional round. It could be any number of teams, including the Cowboys, if they are the lowest seeded NFC playoff team to advance past Wild Card Weekend.

More fittingly, Dallas is playing well enough for one to think the Cowboys could be back in the NFC Championship game for the first time in well over a generation. Nobody would love to see the Packers host the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game more than FOX. The last time Green Bay went to the Super Bowl, McCarthy was the coach. These are the playoff narratives to die for.

Not only would this be a potential revenge game for McCarthy against the team who fired him mid-season, but it would serve as a revenge game for the Cowboys in the Dez Caught It game. Two years later, No. 4 Green Bay stunned top-seeded Dallas in Arlington on the Jared Cook pass that set up the game-winning field goal in the divisional round. Cowboys fans can’t forget that.

Ultimately, Dallas has emerged as one of only a handful of teams that can realistically win the Super Bowl. Green Bay has been in that cluster pretty much all season. While getting to an NFC Championship game for the first time since 1995 would be a huge accomplishment for the Cowboys, that will not be enough to suffice this rabid, nationwide fanbase. They will want more.

If McCarthy is the one to hand Aaron Rodgers yet another NFC Championship game loss, there is no telling what the aftermath will be in Titletown after another wasted season.
