Is the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl being played?

The Boise State Broncos and Central Michigan Chippewas were set to play in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Is the game still taking place?

On New Year’s Eve, college football fans will have their fair share of games to choose to watch on that day, with the top contests being the two College Football Playoff Semifinal games. One of the games on the docket was the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl between the Boise State Broncos and the Central Michigan Chippewas.

This week, the Broncos withdrew from the Arizona Bowl due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the team. That left one vacancy in the game. So, what is the status for the bowl game?

Is the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl being played?

The Arizona Bowl is officially canceled, becoming the fourth bowl game to not be played due to COVID-19 issues. The Military Bowl, Fenway Bowl and Hawaii Bowl were the other games to be called off.

An official statement was released, which you can view below:

Central Michigan, originally slated to participate in the Arizona Bowl, will now play in the Sun Bowl against the Washington State Cougars. Washington State was originally slated to play the Miami Hurricanes, who had to withdraw from the Sun Bowl due to a COVID-19.

The Sun Bowl will take place on Friday, Dec. 31, live from Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. Kickoff is slated to be at 12:00 p.m. ET.
