Oklahoma football message boards convinced Georgia in hot pursuit of Caleb Williams

A poster on an Oklahoma football message board claimed the Georgia Bulldogs are offering quarterback Caleb Williams NIL money to leave the Sooners.

Now that Oklahoma football’s 2021 season is officially finished with an Alamo Bowl victory in the books, speculation over the future of quarterback Caleb Williams can begin in earnest.

This isn’t a new topic of discussion. Ever since former Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley was linked to the LSU job, people have wondered if Williams would follow him to his new job.

As soon as Riley took the USC job, the idea of Williams leaving Oklahoma shifted to the possibility of him joining Riley in Los Angeles.

Now, an even crazier prospect has been raised.

Oklahoma football message boards muse on Caleb Williams to Georgia

A user on Sooner Scoop reported very dubiously that Georgia is in the running for Williams thanks to an NIL offer worth upwards of $2 million.

If that sounds laughable to you, it should. The Message Board Geniuses account on Twitter exists to share the more insane sides of college football message board content.

Does that mean Williams couldn’t transfer to Georgia? Of course not. If Williams wants to leave Oklahoma he’d be desired by schools across the country as a former five-star prospect.

Still, the Georgia link doesn’t really fit.

Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett has another year of eligibility to use if he wants to return for the 2022 season. If he opts to leave, the Bulldogs have JT Daniels waiting for his chance to take over as the starter.

Williams would have his pick of schools to go to, but it would make more sense for him to go somewhere that he can start right away rather than a place like Georgia where he’d almost certainly have to wait in line.
