Does the USPS deliver on New Years Day?

Are you still holding out hope for those cookies from Grandma that were supposed to be delivered by Christmas? I hate to break it to you, bud, but those cookies didn’t get out of the shipment center. They got eaten. Probably. But if you’re deadset on holding out hope that they’ll finally be delivered, then you may want to know if there’s mail on New Years Day, am I right?

Mail is still typically delivered on Saturdays, sure, so you’re not wrong for thinking that the mail will come as usual. That said New Years Day is a holiday observed by the federal government, so things like banks are closed. Not only that, but many businesses like restaurants and stores are going to have adjusted hours to make up for the celebration that comes on New Year’s Eve.

So it’s entirely possible that you may be waiting to get your mail for another day or so. So will you have to wait until Monday to see if you got any new pieces of mail or unique packages?

Will the USPS be delivering mail and packages on New Years Day?

If you’re holding out for some unique package from a distant relative, or you’re really hoping that this is the week you finally get your summons for jury duty, then you’re probably going to be disappointed because no, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will not be delivering mail on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, aka New Years Day.

The USPS observer the holiday just like the rest of the federal agencies, so not only will there be no mail delivery, there will be no trash collection (if they do that on Saturday), or any bank transactions either.

The USPS won’t be the only one with limited to no delivery services, as most national shipping outlets will also have an extremely reduced if not completely stopped delivery service for the day.
