For a handful of teams, they can now firmly turn their attention towards the 2022 NFL Draft.

With really only one week’s worth of games left, many of these NFL teams should be focusing on the 2022 NFL Draft.

Even though playoff expansion is only in its second year under the current format, only 14 teams get into the postseason. That means 18 teams will be watching playoff football at home on the couch as a third party. Though a few teams will not be eliminated from playoff contention until the final whistle in Week 18, many others can put all their energy towards building a great draft board.

Here is the latest 2022 NFL Draft order heading into the Week 17 primetime games.

Updated 2022 NFL Draft order

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-14)
  2. Detroit Lions (2-13-1)
  3. Houston Texans (4-12)
  4. New York Jets (4-12)
  5. New York Giants (4-12)
  6. Carolina Panthers (5-11)
  7. New York Jets from Seattle Seahawks (6-10)
  8. New York Giants from Chicago Bears (6-10)

If the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-14) lose to the Indianapolis Colts at home on Sunday, they will have locked up the right to pick first for the second straight year. The only other team that is in the mix for the top overall selection are the Detroit Lions (2-13-1). Chances are these two bottom-feeders will take the two star pass-rushers in Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux in some order.

A trio of 4-12 teams round out the top five with the Houston Texans picking third, the New York Jets picking fourth and the New York Giants picking fifth. As it is with any draft order, teams with identical records will be determined based on the strength of schedule tiebreaker. Interestingly, both New York teams will have a second top-10 pick based on trades they have made previously.

The Jets have the Seattle Seahawks’ pick from the Jamal Adams deal. The Giants have the Chicago Bears’ pick from the draft-day deal to move up for Justin Fields out of Ohio State. Picking No. 6 to No. 10 in order are the Carolina Panthers (5-11), the Jets by way of Seattle (6-10), the Giants by way of Chicago (6-10), the Washington Football Team (6-10) and the Atlanta Falcons (7-9).

Picking No. 11 to No. 18 in order are the Denver Broncos (7-9), the Minnesota Vikings (7-8), the Cleveland Browns (7-8), the Philadelphia Eagles by way of the Miami Dolphins (8-8), the New Orleans Saints (8-8), the Baltimore Ravens (8-8), the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-7-1) and the Las Vegas Raiders (9-7). A team with a winning record will end up missing the playoffs this season.

The other NFL teams that are not mentioned have either clinched playoff berths or are in position to clinch one of the last few available heading into the final week of the regular season.
