Sooners quarterback Caleb Williams is officially entering the transfer portal to explore his options, leaving an Oklahoma football return on the table.

The biggest potential transfer of the college football offseason may be in motion.

On Monday, Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams announced he is entering the transfer portal.

“I think we all come to college to find our own path and prepare for the future. I came to Oklahoma with a game plan, but with all of the recent changes, I need to figure out what is the right path for me moving forward,” Williams wrote on Twitter.

The quarterback added that he can only speak to other schools if he is in the transfer portal, so his decision to enter is about gathering the information he needs to make his decision.

“Staying at OU will definitely be an option as I begin this process,” Williams wrote.

The decision may take some time. Williams said he’s going to take “a few days off to decompress and relax” with his family before getting into it.

Williams’ entry into the transfer portal was prompted by Lincoln Riley leaving the Sooners to take the USC job. Even when Riley was being linked to LSU’s opening, rumors swirled that Williams might be interested in following him.

Williams was a five-star recruit in the class of 2021, ranking No. 7 nationally in the 247Sports composite.
