3 Steelers who can’t be brought back for post-Ben Roethlisberger rebuild

Whoever is starting under center for the Steelers in 2022 should be doing so with a new offensive coordinator.
Pittsburgh opted to move on from Randy Ficthner after the 2020 season, and decided to promote Canada, who was just brought in as quarterbacks coach. Canada had a variety of coordinator and quarterbacks coaching gigs in college and got his first crack at the NFL level.
It has not gone well.
As mentioned previously, the Steelers offense has targeted McCloud heavily in the passing game, especially in Weeks 16 and 17. But Canada has some bad statistics to his credit, both coming entering their Week 17 game against Cleveland.
- The Steelers were held without a first half touchdown in five straight games, the first time that has happened since 1940.
- Pittsburgh were outscored 114-19 in the first half of their previous six games. That’s an average of 3.2 points.
If the Steelers want to get the offense right for whoever is the starting quarterback entering the 2022 season, they should consider making a change at offensive coordinator.
