Former TCU running back Zach Evans is transferring to Ole Miss after two years in Fort Worth.

The Ole Miss Rebels are getting a big boost from the transfer portal, as former TCU Horned Frogs running back Zach Evans plans to enroll at the University of Mississippi after spending time in the transfer portal.

Evans was a former five-star recruit out of high school in the Class of 2020. The Houston native’s recruitment was a tumultuous one, including him getting out of NLI with Georgia two offseasons ago. While Evans ended up going to TCU out of high school, seeing Gary Patterson be ousted mid-season last fall meant Evans needed to go find somewhere else to play his college football at.

While Ole Miss has been incredibly passing centric under Lane Kiffin, expect for the Rebels lean heavily on the run in 2022 with Evans coming into the fold.

With Evans leaving TCU, the expectation was that he would either join an SEC team or another Power Five program in his native Texas. Though Texas A&M was the only team that checked both of those boxes, Evans going to Ole Miss is a huge deal for the emerging SEC power. Ole Miss is coming off a 10-win season and a trip to the Sugar Bowl. The Rebels must replace Matt Corral…

If Ole Miss ventures into the portal again to replace their long-time starting quarterback, this team could be dangerously good in 2022. Though the Alabama Crimson Tide loom large in the same SEC West division, a new quarterback/running back tandem involving Evans certainly moves the needle in the SEC landscape. The Rebels will be expected to win 10 games again, maybe more.

Besides getting the quarterback right, the only thing holding Ole Miss back could be its defense.
