After landing cornerback Travis Hunter, Deion Sanders brought another highly touted recruit to Jackson State in wide receiver Kevin Coleman.

If you thought for one second that Deion Sanders and Jackson State disappeared off the face of the recruiting planet, think again.

Once again, the Tigers landed another top-50 recruit to their recruiting class, this time with four-star wide receiver Kevin Coleman.

Coleman chose the Tigers over other top schools, including Florida State and Miami.

This is the second time Sanders stole another highly-touted recruit away from the Seminoles, most notably landing the top recruit in the country, Travis Hunter, as they flipped him on early Signing Day in a massive shocker.

Deion Sanders is turning Jackson State into a future powerhouse

Once again, the HBCU’s won out over a Power 5 Institution and Kevin Coleman has shown throughout his high school career why he is a highly touted recruit. Also, he is a very versatile player. According to his head coach, Coleman played several positions on offense, lining up at quarterback, running back, and wide receiver.

Now, he, along with Hunter, headlines a Jackson State 2022 class that will look to help build off the success the program had last fall, going 11-1 in the regular season, winning the conference, and facing off against South Carolina State in the Cricket Celebration Bowl.

Additionally, Sanders and his history of playing different positions allowed Coleman to make his decision, as he stated following his commitment.

"“Prime Time, Why not play for the best? He inspired me. Why not be taught by the best? He played both ways. He did everything I want to do.”"

For those who recall, Sanders was not only a highly touted cornerback, he also took snaps at wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys during their 1995 Super Bowl Championship, catching one pass for 47 yards against the Steelers in their 27-17 win in Super Bowl XXX. Sanders was also an excellent return specialist.

This is, once again, another big move for Jackson State and the HBCU Community. Landing one top 50 recruit was considered a fluke, but now after landing a second one, there’s no mystery that something special is brewing in Mississippi.
