The Cowboys host the 49ers in an intriguing Divisional Playoff game on Saturday. Here are five bold predictions on how Dallas will perform.

Long-time NFL fans understand the historical significance of the Cowboys-49ers rivalry. However, the two sides haven’t met in the postseason since 1994. This edition of the NFC rivalry will look much different than I did over 20 years ago.

The Cowboys hope they can build on the momentum stemming from last week’s 51-26 beatdown of the Eagles. Dak Prescott showed surgeon-like precision in his dismantling of the Philadelphia secondary. He’ll be looking to repeat that feat at home against San Francisco.

The 49ers enter the matchup on the back of an impressive but narrow 27-24 victory at the Rams. Jimmy Garoppolo will need to play at a high level to keep up with the Cowboys’ diverse scoring attack.

5. DeMarcus Lawrence will notch two sacks

Lawrence hasn’t had the same caliber season rushing the passers as rookie Micah Parsons, but his performance will be vital for the Cowboys in the postseason. He’s in line for a big day against San Francisco since the ‘Niners will likely focus their efforts on keeping Parsons in check.

Leaving Lawrence one-on-one with an opposing offensive lineman is still a risky proposition. Combine that with Garoppolo’s tendency to hold on to the ball for extended periods of time and it’s easy to see how Lawrence can have a big day. Put the wily veteran down for a pair of sacks to help turn the game in his team’s favor.
