3. Michigan Wolverines

After one and two, the rankings will get interesting but Michigan should be the number three team. Regardless of Ohio State winning in the Rose Bowl, the Wolverines made it to the College Football Playoff by virtue of beating their rival.

Now, they didn’t do anything when they got there but it was a season the Wolverines won’t soon forget as they finally got over that hump. They earned the right to be right behind Alabama and Georgia in the rankings.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

Despite beating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game and leading for most of the National Championship Game, Alabama couldn’t hold on to make it back to back championships.

The Crimson Tide finally fell short against their SEC counterparts and will end the season as the number two team in the country. When it mattered most, the Tide just couldn’t punch the ball in enough to add another trophy to the lineage.
