NFL Twitter reacts to Vikings decision to clean house, fire Mike Zimmer
By Mark Powell
The Minnesota Vikings opted to fire both head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman, sending shockwaves around the NFL.
Zimmer, for one, seemed to expect this news heading into the final weeks of the season. After failing to make the playoffs yet again, a change was necessary at the top. General manager Rick Spielman, however, was evidently shocked he was fired. Spielman helped put together this talented Vikings team, although the group has yet to fully gel.
Spielman had been with the Vikings since 2006, trickling upwards in the organization. His longevity with Minnesota likely led to his shocked reaction to being kicked to the curb.
Vikings head coach history
Here is a full list of Vikings head coaches, starting with Norm Van Brocklin in 1969.
How long has Mike Zimmer coached the Vikings?
Zimmer had coached the Vikings since 2014. With his firing, Matt LaFleur is now the longest-tenured coach in the NFC North.
Rick Spielman salary
In August of 2020, Spielman signed a three-year contract extension as GM. His estimated net worth is somewhere between $1 million-$5 million, though no exact number is given or public information.
Vic Fangio: Vikings a possible fit?
Fangio has plenty of NFL coaching experience, and although he was just fired in Denver, if Minnesota wants a steady, proven hand as their next coach, he could be the man.
Vikings fans react to Mike Zimmer, Rick Spielman firing
Vikings fans, for the most part, were grateful to what the pairing had accomplished in their time together. However, it was clearly time for a change in the Twin Cities.
There were many more where that came from.
Overall, the sentiment is a positive one for Vikings faithful, who have grown tired of new rosters with similar results, year after year. Eventually, something had to change, and Wilf has gone all-out to ensure that at the very least the Vikings aren’t complacent.
