Georgia fans went wild after freshman defensive back Kelee Ringo erased over 40 years of misery with a national championship-sealing pick-six.

Georgia Bulldogs fans knew the talent of 5-star freshman Kelee Ringo and he’d played well for much of the season. But it was on the biggest stage and in the biggest moment that he became an all-time legend.

With Georgia leading Alabama 26-18 with 1:09 left in the National Championship Game, Heisman Trophy-winner Bryce Young lofted a pass deep on third down. Ringo came down with the interception.

However, he didn’t stay down; he raced down the sideline and into the end zone, sealing a 33-18 victory for the Bulldogs and their first national title since 1980. Bulldogs fans across the country and in Lucas Oil Stadium went wild at the monumental pick-six.

Georgia fans are ecstatic over Kelee Ringo’s game-winning interception that won a national championship

Just by seeing those reactions, it’s clear how much this championship-clinching play by Kelee Ringo means to so many people. Over four decades of misery and recent memory has included heartbreak after heartbreak, notably against Alabama. Still hurting in the minds of Bulldogs fans was DeVonta Smith’s game-winning touchdown in the 2017 title game.

But this was different. This was years of frustration finally pouring out. Ringo’s play is eerily similar to the 2002 NFC Championship game when cornerback Ronde Barber ripped the Philadelphia Eagles-sized monkey off the back of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ringo’s pick has a similar meaning, as the freshman star finally ended the Tide’s dominance over the Bulldogs and brought home a title that was years in the making. Georgia fans, those in attendance in Indianapolis, and those watching around the globe will forever be grateful to Ringo for bringing the title home.
