Even though he is no longer the head coach of the Houston Texans, David Culley will still be getting paid well.

There were seven head coaching vacancies in the NFL to start Jan. 13, but that number grew to eight later in the day. Reports came in that the Houston Texans fired head coach David Culley after just one season on the job, where he held a 4-13 record. Even though his tenure ended unceremoniously quick, Culley is still going to get huge money from the team.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Texans owe Culley $17 million over the next three years. Add that to the money that he earned in 2021, Culley is set to be paid around $22 million by Houston.

Texans owe David Culley huge money after firing

After Houston parted ways with Bill O’Brien early on in the 2020 season, they were in search of their new head coach. Not only that, but they had to navigate the Deshaun Watson saga, as he sought a trade off the team. Texans ownership made the choice to hire Culley, then the passing game coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens.

In 2021, the Texans played hard under Culley. They scored huge wins over the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers, while seeing third-round rookie quarterback Davis Mills play great in the second half of the season. But, the organization opted to move on.

As for who could replace Culley in Houston, former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores and New England Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo have been reported as potential top candidates.

Culley’s tenure with the Texans may have come to an end, but he will still be getting paid by the organization.
