Jerry Jones reaction to loss: Dallas Cowboys owner sent a stern message that sure sounded like a direct shot at Mike McCarthy after Sunday’s loss.

Let’s spare hyperbole: The Dallas Cowboys playoff loss on Sunday afternoon was nothing short of embarrassing.

Dallas entered the postseason with its sights set on a potential Mike McCarthy revenge game that would double as vindication for the infamous Catch Game in Green Bay. But those dreams died on Sunday when the Cowboys failed to get out of the Wild Card round.

Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers, despite many attempts to give the Cowboys a chance to win, beat Dallas and will instead be the team heading to Green Bay this January. The Cowboys, meanwhile, have another long and uncomfortable offseason ahead.

Could it be one with significant change?

Even before the controversial ending to the game, questions were being asked about just what in the actual hell Mike McCarthy was thinking. One person perhaps thinking that more than anyone else is the man paying McCarthy: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Jerry Jones reaction to loss is bad news for Cowboys coaches

After the loss, Jones didn’t directly address McCarthy or his coaches by name, but his message nevertheless felt very pointed.

It’s worth mentioning that Dan Quinn is getting some significant head coaching interest this hiring cycle. One potential option for Jones could be to fire McCarthy and promote Quinn to head coach, which would be a rather seamless transition. Not only that, but Jones would be getting a top coaching candidate on the market and would do so by simply promoting him from within the organization.
