Carlos Correa rumors: Dodgers, Yankees leaving an impression

The latest on Carlos Correa has two big players — the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers — going in opposite directions in their pursuit.

The Correa chase appears to be down to four teams — the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Astros. Once the lockout ends, the real games begin, as official offers can be made to Correa by all four teams, or others lurking in the shadows.

So, what’s the latest on Correa? Not much can develop at the moment due to the lockout, but there has been some movement behind the scenes.

Per Yanks Go Yard’s Thomas Carannante, it’s not a great outlook for the Bronx Bombers. These are not the same Yankees of your youth, which threw money at seemingly every big-market free agent in hopes of swaying them to New York. Instead, these Yankees are pinching pennies.

Andy Martino of SNY suggested the Yankees won’t be all-in on Correa unless his contract terms sink under the $200 million mark, which feels unrealistic to say the least.

So much for those dreams, Yankee fans. A Matt Olson trade is far more likely.

Dodgers rumors: What’s the latest on Carlos Correa?

The Dodgers, meanwhile, should have a much more positive outlook on their chances of signing Correa once the lockout ends.

Per Dodgers Way’s Adam Weinrib, Correa’s family has been selling his Astros game-used gear on the DL the last few weeks. That, uh, doesn’t sound like someone who’s returning to Houston.

As for the Dodgers, they have loads of money to play with, as we detailed here in a related article about LA’s pursuit of Freddie Freeman. The luxury tax remains an issue, but with Corey Seager and perhaps Trea Turner coming off the books next offseason, why not spend on Correa?
