NBA Trade Deadline: 15 best NBA players who could be available
By Nick Villano
9. Jerami Grant — Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have some fun assets, but the best one that’s available for a trade is Jerami Grant. He’s averaging over 20 points per game and just under five rebounds per game. He would be someone who would jump into most teams’ starting lineups. Grant could be someone who explodes as a player on this list. There are some questions about whether he’s a “good stats, bad team” player, but we won’t know that for sure until he plays on a good team.
Right now, Grant is returning from injury, but he’s close. He’s playing with the Pistons G League team as he works his way back to NBA shape. The Pistons don’t want to bring Grant back to the top league too fast, because hurting his averages could hurt his trade value. Grant is better served getting the kinks out with the Motor City Cruise for now.
Grant is a player who can fit on any team that needs secondary scoring. There are plenty of teams that could use an efficient scorer like Grant in the middle of the season. He’s someone who exploded once he went to Detroit last season. He never averaged more than 14 points, but he immediately skyrocketed past 20 points when he joined the Pistons. Can he do that everywhere? Was this a case of someone hitting their stride and finding their confidence?
Seeing what Grant gets on the market will be an interesting test case for this kind of deal. We’ve seen middling players turn into Cinderella on bad teams and then turn back into a pumpkin once they were traded, but on the other side, some players just continue with the confidence in their shot. Grant seems like he is more likely the latter.
