A Buffalo Bills fan missed his mother’s funeral to watch his favorite team lose in heartbreaking fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.

Buffalo Bills fans are something else, but this guy did more than pile drive a folding table in a parking lot to show his loyalty to his fandom.

Instead of attending his own mother’s funeral, he brought with him a sign to Arrowhead Stadium reading “I missed my mom’s funeral to be here! Go Bills!” While it was a game for the ages in the AFC Divisional Round, the Bills lost an absolute soul-crusher. 13 Seconds may go down as the worst moment in Bills football history since Scott Norwood missed his infamous field goal.

If this is not a sign to everyone that instant karma does exist, then I don’t know what to tell you.

While everybody has their own relationship with their mother, this is one of those instances where you might need to put your fandom aside. She did bring you into the world. You didn’t ask to be here, but she did. So unless she condoned folding table parking lot destruction and refused to eat anything other than buffalo wings, bleu cheese and celery sticks on game day, go celebrate mom.

Though players have missed the births of their children before to go to work on Sunday, that is their job. Life and death are very serious extremes on the existence spectrum. While this may have been done as a tribute to Ma, sometimes you just have to be an adult and do what’s right. Football is a game. You only get one mother and you need to show her the respect she rightfully deserves.

Being a fan should be celebrated, but family should come first in regrettable moments like these.
