Could LSU football steal top 5 recruit from rival Texas A&M?
Five-star linebacker Harold Perkins decommitted from Texas A&M and the coveted prospect may have his eyes on SEC rival LSU football.
The No. 1 linebacker in the land was all set to stay home and go to Texas A&M but now it looks like there is a change of plans.
On Monday, 247Sports reported that Perkins has decommitted from the Aggies and is taking visits elsewhere as his recruitment continues. He will announce his new college choice on Feb. 2.
That’s a blow to A&M’s top-rated recruiting class. It could be a major boon for someone else, like LSU.
Harold Perkins decommits from Texas A&M, eyes LSU football and Florida
The Tigers are hosting Perkins on an official visit this weekend, according to Perkins’ uncle. They will also have an in-home visit with the player and his family later this week.
Florida is also in the mix for Perkins. He visited the Gators earlier in January and is slated to have an in-home visit with them as well.
Perkins is the No. 4 prospect in the country per the 247Sports Composite. Gabe Brooks compared him to Myles Jack as an “attacking defender” whose athleticism could give him potential as a running back as well.
He was a first-team all-district player in Texas at both positions in 2021. He had 35 tackles, three interceptions and two sacks on defense while racking up 1,352 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground.
Perkins had offers from all over the country when he committed to Texas A&M at the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 2. It’s not clear why he backed off his pledge but his options have not diminished at all. He’ll be one of the most highly-anticipated recruits to hear from on Signing Day.
