College football has been dominated by a few teams recently but the likes of Michigan, Texas A&M and others can end their championship droughts soon.

The Georgia Bulldogs waited 41 years for a national championship.

The wait may not have been pleasant, but it was undoubtedly worth it as they beat Alabama to claim the trophy.

Now that UGA’s drought is over, which program could be the next?

USC — 17 years

USC’s hiring of Lincoln Riley changed the college football landscape, certainly in the Pac-12 and Big 12, in a matter of hours. Riley now gets to show how quickly he can change the Trojans fortunes.

Realistically, the new head coach will need a couple of years to truly have a lineup capable of winning a title. However, the transfer portal has made it easier than ever for a coach to quickly transform a roster.

Already, Riley has landed a wave of transfer talent, reinforcing the trenches and skill positions on both sides of the ball. If he also adds his five-star quarterback Caleb Williams, he’ll field an offense immediately capable of rolling through the Pac-12.

As bad as the Trojans were in 2021, they’ve still recruited strongly over the years. Melding the existing talent with new players should yield immediate results.

The last time USC won a national title was in 2004 under Pete Carroll. That 17-year drought may extend a couple more seasons but the Trojans are set up better than ever to end it.
