Come next season, it’s very much up in the air if star first baseman Freddie Freeman will return to the Atlanta Braves or not.

While the MLB lockout has continued and people are waiting for things to be settled, no one has forgotten about the big-time free agents out there. You already know that standout first baseman Freddie Freeman is on that list.

Freeman, who just helped the Atlanta Braves win the World Series this past spring, is a wanted man. While the expectation was that he and Atlanta would be able to get things done in a timely fashion, it’s looking like things are a bit complicated here.

Will Freddie Freeman end up returning to the Atlanta Braves next season?

“Our longstanding assumption — ah, they’ll just work it out — no longer applies,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal wrote in his latest column. “The Braves and Freeman didn’t work it out last spring, last summer or in November with the lockout looming. They still might work it out, considering that an agreement remains the most sensible outcome. But rest assured, both sides are weighing their options. It would not be a surprise for either, once business resumes, to act quickly.”

This info from Rosenthal should scare plenty of Braves fans out there right now. While the Atlanta supporters have remained optimistic that the front office would be able to get things over the line with Freeman, that hasn’t been the case thus far.

Freeman will surely have countless suitors once the lockdown does end too. The fact that Atlanta dropped the ball and didn’t finalize a new deal with Freeman after the World Series was a major letdown. Now, we very well could see him head to a new team next season.
