The Broncos’ decision to hire Nathaniel Hackett as their head coach could give them a chance to land Aaron Rodgers.

Packers fans still wallowing in the misery of their team’s early playoff exit must brace themselves for the mountain of Aaron Rodgers rumors headed their way this offseason. The Broncos’ decision to poach former Green Bay offensive coordinator as their new head coach does provide a plausible reason for Rodgers to consider a move to the Mile High City.

Rodgers likely won’t make a decision about where he’ll play next season anytime soon, but it’s easy to see why Denver could be an appealing destination.

The future Hall of Famer has a high degree of comfort with Hackett’s offensive system. Rodgers isn’t going to leave Green Bay for a team that doesn’t feature an appealing style of offense or isn’t a contender.

Can Nathaniel Hackett recruit Aaron Rodgers to the Broncos?

Denver also boasts an impressive group of pass catchers that is deeper than the group Rodgers works with in Green Bay. Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy could put up video game numbers working with a quarterback of Rodgers’ caliber. No single Denver receiver is as talented as Davante Adams, but his own impending free agency adds another complicated layer to Rodgers’ decision-making process.

At the very least, Hackett going to Denver puts the Broncos in the theoretical race to land Rodgers. They’ll face plenty of competition, but they are in a better position now than they were just days ago.

Aaron Rodgers is mad at the Packers' coaching staff (again). dark. Next

The Broncos didn’t hire Hackett just because of his relationship with Rodgers, but it’s foolish to think that Denver officials didn’t consider the link between the two before ultimately making the hire.

They are a team that could be one quarterback upgrade from transitioning themselves from division afterthought to legitimate Super Bowl contender. Landing Rodgers would make the Hackett hire a true stroke of genius for the Broncos.
