Josh McCown has had his second meeting with the Houston Texans already, making him the early front-runner for their head-coaching vacancy.

It seems as though the Houston Texans are one step closer towards naming Josh McCown their next head coach.

McCown completed his second interview with the team on Friday after having interviewed for the head-coaching vacancy for the first time last week. The former journeyman quarterback last played for the 2020 Texans. With him being reportedly “all-in” on coaching, it remains to be seen if the Texans will end up scheduling any other second interviews after having just met with McCown.

Houston is coming off a one-and-done season with David Culley at the helm where the awful Texans franchise massively overachieved.

Houston Texans might actually hire Josh McCown to be their next head coach

There are reasons to be skeptical about the Texans hiring McCown, as well as reasons to potentially get behind this. The biggest reason to be skeptical is McCown only retired from playing two years ago and has not been a serious coach before. The biggest reason to get behind this was McCown was essentially a player/coach for the last few years of his career, and players loved him.

What this comes down to is if Cal McNair, Nick Caserio and Jack Easterby believe McCown has what it takes to get the Texans out of the doldrums of the AFC South. There are no guarantees he will be a good head coach, or if he will be able to assemble a competent staff. However, McCown was beloved as a player and has been part of several organizations, so he is well-connected.

If the Texans hire McCown as their next head coach, it will be either cutting edge or total disaster.
