Kentucky beat the brakes off of Kansas on the road in Allen Fieldhouse, which is sure to shake up the college basketball rankings.

The college basketball world was eagerly awaiting the marquee matchup on Saturday in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge between the No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks and No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats. It was a game that would tell us a lot about both teams, but particularly the Wildcats on the road at Allen Fieldhouse.

With Tyty Washington back in the fold after an injury, the Wildcats came out and blitzed the Jayhawks in a huge matchup. Though Kansas tried to fight back, they had no answers that allowed them to make up the deficit and, more importantly, stop Kentucky.

After the big upset, the college basketball rankings are going to get moved around a bit, especially since it’s not the only upset of the day.

Projected college basketball rankings after Alabama upsets Baylor

  1. Auburn Tigers
  2. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  3. Purdue Boilermakers
  4. Houston Cougars
  5. Baylor Bears
  6. Kansas Jayhawks
  7. UCLA Bruins
  8. Arizona Wildcats
  9. Duke Blue Devils
  10. Michigan State Spartans
  11. Kentucky Wildcats
  12. Wisconsin Badgers
  13. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  14. Villanova Wildcats
  15. USC Trojans

As dominant of a performance as Saturday was from Kentucky, it’s truly hard to see the Wildcats cracking the top 10 — even if they might be a top-10 team in college basketball — given that Michigan State and Duke both picked up convincing wins as the most likely candidates to get jumped.

In the case of Kansas, they won’t drop too far, even with a hefty loss at home. They have still proven to be a top-tier team in the country right now and should continue to prove as much.

Even still, this is a telling matchup for both of these teams. As good as the Jayhawks are, they have a lot left to improve upon. And Kentucky, well, they showed they have the goods to beat any team in college basketball — they just have to play like they did in Lawrence on Saturday.
