The Kansas City Chiefs have released cornerback Damon Arnette following his arrest in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Damon Arnette is no longer a member of the Kansas City Chiefs after the former first-round pick was arrested in Las Vegas on Friday night for gun and drug charges.

Arnette was a former first-round pick out of Ohio State by the Las Vegas Raiders. He was released by the Silver and Black back in November after a video of him surfaced brandishing a firearm and threatening someone. While the Chiefs took a flier on the former Buckeyes standout by signing him to a futures/reserve contract, his tenure with the AFC West titan has now come to an end.

The Chiefs released Arnette immediately after he was arrested following Friday night’s arrest for assault with a deadly weapon.

Here is a list of all the charges that Arnette is facing after Friday night’s arrest in Las Vegas.

Damon Arnette arrested: Kansas City Chiefs release cornerback immediately

It was incredibly risky for the Chiefs to sign Arnette in the first place. While the Chiefs have a track record for bringing in players with questionable character into their organization, it was a massive red flag for them to give Arnette an opportunity to begin with. His talent is clearly what had teams at least interested in him, but if he is in trouble with the law again, the legal system will win out.

Kansas City is hosting the 2021 AFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon. Though Arnette was not part of this team, this is a distraction. Kansas City is favored to defeat the feisty Cincinnati Bengals to reach Super Bowl 56. They are also the favorite to beat whoever comes out of the NFC this season. If Kansas City comes up short, Chiefs Kingdom will be apoplectic about the defeat.

Damon Arnette contract

Arnette signed a one-year, $895k contract with the Chiefs.

This is a bad look for the Chiefs for them to think signing Arnette was even remotely a good idea.
