NFL Twitter loves the Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers State Farm curse
NFL Twitter believes in the State Farm curse after Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers were both eliminated from the playoffs.
There isn’t a sports fan alive who doesn’t know the State Farm commercials featuring Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
They’ve blanketed broadcasts for months with slogans like the “Patrick Price” and the “Rodgers rate.” It’s been hard to miss.
Choosing Mahomes and Rodgers as spokespeople makes sense considering they’re two of the best players in the game. However, neither one is going to the Super Bowl.
NFL Twitter has dubbed that the State Farm curse.
Did Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers fall to the State Farm Curse?
Did appearing in State Farm commercials really cause Mahomes and Rodgers to get eliminated from the playoffs? Probably not.
Those commercials will just have a different feel over the next two weeks before the Super Bowl knowing neither one made it through the conference title games.
Rodgers went first. His Packers fell in the divisional round to the 49ers. The quarterback had a miserable outing, taking five sacks while failing to throw a touchdown pass in the loss.
Mahomes lost to the Bengals in the AFC title game. The Chiefs may have started celebrating too early after going up big in first half. Cincinnati came back and took KC to overtime. Mahomes threw an interception on the first drive of the extra period and the Bengals won with a field goal.
Maybe next season we’ll see Jimmy Garoppolo and Joe Burrow pitching insurance deals instead.
