Best Alabama football players under Nick Saban: 22. C.J. Mosley

C.J. Mosley could be anywhere on this list and it would make sense. He was just so good at the linebacker position. His impact was swift, winning a spot on the freshman All-American team in his first season at Alabama. He was another player who was able to play in his home state, coming from the town of Theodore, which is a town of about 6,000 people.

He became the biggest name to come out of Theodore the second he went to Alabama, and he held their name up well.

Mosley hit his stride in his junior season after an injury-riddled sophomore year. He recorded 107 tackles and got himself first-team All-American honors. He became a knack for the big play. He became one of the best open-field tacklers in the country, and he also took a couple of interceptions back to the house for a defensive touchdown throughout his career. Mosley was always in the right position, and it was almost impossible to get away from him if you were a running back. So many tried juke moves, spin moves, back jukes, and everything else in their arsenal to get away from Mosley. He still found a way to tackle them.

Mosley was a co-owner of the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award with Michael Sam in 2013. It’s like he had a magnet connecting his body to the ball in his senior year. He could run through a pile and come out of it tackling the running back. In coverage, he was always tipping passes. He made opposing offenses think twice about their play calling the entire game. He was just destroying teams weekly, and his stat line proves his worth every season.
