Best Alabama football players under Nick Saban: 21. Jerry Jeudy

It’s so hard to rank the four wide receivers that Alabama was working with between 2019 and 2020. It might be the best foursome in college football history when it comes to talent. Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, DeVonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle were all on the same team. The presumed best of the group during the 2019 season was Jeudy.

Jeudy had 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns in his second year on the team and then followed it up with 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns (in two fewer games) in his third and final year at Alabama. His 26 career receiving touchdowns ranks second in history at the time of him leaving for the NFL.

In his junior season, he seemed to step up when his team needed him. He didn’t get a ton of touches in the SEC Championship against Georgia, but he scored a touchdown with five minutes left to tie the game. In the College Football Playoff semi-finals, Jeudy scored with six minutes left to seal the game, and it ended up going down as the game-winning touchdown. In a pretty lopsided loss to Clemson in the National Championship, he had the one big play catching a 66-yard pass from Tua in the first quarter.

Jeudy made sure his last game was his best game. After losing to Auburn in the Iron Bowl, Jeudy had more than 200 yards and a touchdown against an overmatched Michigan team in the Citrus Bowl. This was also the year Tua Tagovailoa suffered his hip injury, so Jeudy was trying to help Mac Jones along during his final games in an Alabama uniform. It ended very well, and Jeudy ended up being a first-round pick to the Denver Broncos.
