While trade rumors for Kirk Cousins continue to fly, those should come to an end if Kevin O’Connell is hired by the Minnesota Vikings.

While no official announcement is yet to be made, all signs are pointing to Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell becoming the next head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. O’Connell may be focused on winning the Super Bowl first, but Vikings fans are ready to welcome him with open arms.

At the same time, O’Connell will be reunited with veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins once this does go down. The two were together in Washington, and now they’ll be ready to work together once again. For Cousins, bringing in O’Connell sure would seem to lock his status in with the team for 2022.

Kirk Cousins trade rumors have Vikings fans frustrated

For a while now, Cousins has been mentioned in countless trade rumors. We don’t have to tell you how annoying it has been for the Minnesota faithful, as they want the team to bounce back in 2022 and hopefully get back to the postseason.

Cousins no question must be hyped up about O’Connell likely making his way to the Vikings too. O’Connell served as Cousins’ quarterbacks’ coach in Washington in 2017. That season, Cousins tossed for 4,093 yards and 27 touchdowns.

“I think after the last two years of taking almost every snap, it seems like he really understands what we are trying to get accomplished with each individual play,” O’Connell said of Cousins in June of 2017. “Both in the pass game and in the run game and he’s doing a tremendous job of controlling things and getting us into the right plays, getting us into the right protections and then when it’s time to make a decision and make a throw, he’s doing a really good job being accurate with the football and moving the team on a daily basis.”

Cousins is coming off a big season in 2021, throwing for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Despite those numbers, Minnesota closed out the year 8-9 and missed out on the playoffs. The team’s supporters are ready for O’Connell to be announced as the new coach in charge so he can hit the ground running for 2022.
