Arch Manning has reportedly removed Clemson from consideration for his 2023 commitment.

The Arch Manning sweepstakes have gotten a bit more interesting of late with the 2023 five-star quarterback reportedly removing Clemson from the equation, according to 247Sports Steve Wiltfong..

Manning is the son of Cooper, the grandson of Archie and the nephew of Peyton and Eli. The Isidore Newman standout is currently playing basketball but has honed in his recruiting focus on these four teams: Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas. He took visits to all four campuses in the summer and the fall. One would think he would early enroll in January 2023.

While programs like Florida, LSU and Ohio State have made their pushes to get him and remain in contact with him, it feels like it is coming down to the four leaders.

Will it be Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss or Texas who lands the crown jewel of the 2023 recruiting cycle?

Arch Manning recruitment: Clemson reportedly out of the mix for commitment

While Clemson had lost ground after a rough season for Tigers standards, the four other teams in contention for his 2023 commitment all have compelling arguments. Ole Miss is home, his grandfather, father and Uncle Eli all went there. The Mannings are close to Kirby Smart and Matt Luke at Georgia. Manning is a big advocate of Steve Sarkisian. And of course, Alabama is Alabama.

All things equal, Ole Miss would get the nod for family reasons. However, the Rebels have never won the SEC West since 1992’s first conference realignment. Teams like Alabama and Georgia regularly get to Atlanta, so that could be a huge red flag when it comes to Ole Miss. As for Texas, while the Longhorns are joining the SEC at some point, they were a disaster last season at 4-8.

Ultimately, if Manning does not go to Ole Miss, then the next likeliest team is arguably Georgia. Luke is a former Ole Miss head coach and player. Smart and Uncle Peyton competed for years against each other in the SEC East and were briefly teammates on the 1999 Indianapolis Colts. They are the reigning national champions and Nick Saban is not getting any younger at Alabama.

While Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas have to like their chances, Clemson has missed out.
