Team USA’s Brianna Decker left the team’s Winter Olympics debut with an injury and, unfortunately, she updated fans on her condition.

For the women’s ice hockey competition at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, Team USA is expected to challenge for a gold medal. So far, they’ve looked the part with wins over Finland and Russia to begin their run to the podium.

Unfortunately, the opening 5-2 victory left the team a bit short-handed as star forward Brianna Decker was stretchered off the ice after a nasty trip, collision and fall that left her with a seemingly serious leg injury.

Days after the injury, the former assistant captain at the 2014 and 2018 games for the Americans took to Instagram to provide an update and, sadly, the injury will cut her Olympic run in 2022 well premature as she’s out for the rest of the games.

Brianna Decker injury update: Team USA star out of Winter Olympics

Losing Decker didn’t immediately hurt Team USA in the round-robin play as the Americans beat up on Russia to move to 2-0 in the competition.

With that said, the forward has been a stalwart for this team in international competition over the years with the ability to both create offense for herself and her teammates in the offensive zone. That will be missed moving forward when Team USA must face the upper-echelon of the competition, Canada in particular.

It’s terribly unfortunate to see an experienced and high-quality player like Decker have her Winter Olympics cut short due to an unnecessary injury such as this. Rest assured, though, that her teammates should have added motivation to win the gold for her.
