2022 NFL Mock Draft: Malik Willis is first QB off the board
By Brad Weiss
It should be an interesting offseason for the New York Jets, who struggled under first-year head coach Robert Saleh in 2021 but have a lot to look forward to. They hold two top-10 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, and saw good signs from quarterback Zach Wilson down the stretch, so an improvement in 2022 is likely in the cards.
With pick No. 4 overall, the Jets need to solidify the offensive line, and teaming Evan Neal with Mekhi Becton would give them two young, and talented offensive tackles moving forward. Keeping Wilson upright has to be priority No. 1 for this team, and Neal is as good an offensive lineman as there is in this draft class.
Holding the No. 5 pick is the team that the Jets share MetLife Stadium with, and that is the New York Giants. The Giants have a brand new regime at the helm this season, as Joe Shoen and Brian Daboll replace Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge, so they already have upgraded the franchise this offseason.
At pick No. 5, the Giants have to focus on the offensive line, as Daniel Jones is not going to show his full potential if he is always running for his life. Ikem Ekwonu would be an outstanding get here to round out the top-5, and when it comes to him and Evan Neal, it is a flip of the coin right now.
For the Carolina Panthers, figuring out the quarterback position this season is priority No. 1, and they could invest the No. 6 overall pick in the position. We have seen the quarterback rankings go up and down since the college football season ended, and one prospect made a huge impact during the Senior Bowl Week.
That prospect is Malik Willis, who we believed had the highest ceiling going into the draft season, and he certainly showed incredible arm strength and accuracy down in Mobile, Alabama. There is a good chance he is the first quarterback off the board this April, and that is where he lands in our latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
