The Dallas Cowboys have a long offseason ahead of them, and plenty of tough decisions to make. Jerry Jones is flirting with salary cap hell.

Per Over the Cap, the Cowboys are currently expected to be about $13.5 million over the salary cap heading into a busy offseason. That’s unacceptable given Dallas lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round and will be looking to improve the roster through more means than just the NFL Draft.

So, what should Jerry Jones and the Cowboys front office do about it?

To get under the salary cap in hopes of being a player in free agency, some tough decisions lie ahead, including cutting meaningful contributors to the 2021-22 team. Buckle up.

Cowboys: 3 overpaid players to cut, starting with Blake Jarwin

Cutting Jarwin seems about as easy of a decision as the Cowboys can have at this point. Even without an obvious replacement due to Dalton Schultz’s pending free agency, the Cowboys would gain $4.5 million from releasing Jarwin. That’s more than enough to solidify a replacement, should Dallas not decide to do so in the NFL Draft.

Releasing Jarwin won’t monumentally impact the Cowboys’ salary cap situation, but it certainly won’t hurt matters. Re-signing Schultz, depending on his market, remains an option. So is promoting Jeremy Sprinkle or Sean McKeon to replace him.
