AJ Dobson is looking to grab headlines with a big victory at UFC 271.

UFC 271 is headlined by a major middleweight contest as Israel Adesanya defends the 185-pound title against former champion, Robert Whittaker. The card also features some debuts that have drawn attention for their performances in other organizations. AJ Dobson is one of those competitors to keep an eye on.

An Ohio-native, Dobson is making his first official appearance in the Octagon. Fight fans may remember him scoring a first-round submission victory over Hashem Arkhagha in 2021 while on the Dana White Contender Series. That was his sixth professional victory in a career dating back to 2016.

Dobson has ten years of fighting game experience, but his professional career is still quite young. Since starting in 2016 he’s fought only seven professional contests. The biggest stage he’s competed on to date was a King of the Cage bout back in 2017. Even without an expansive resume, he’s still shown flashes of ability that continue to force people to pay attention to him even before showing up on the Contender Series.

Dobson brings a 6-0-1 record into the Octagon. Five of his six opponents did not make it to the final bell, as two were stopped by submission and the other three via a form of knockout.

Jacob Malkoun will use his fists to welcome Dobson into the Octagon

UFC-veteran, Jacob Malkoun is waiting to welcome Dobson. He’s put together a 1-1 tenure in the UFC since joining the company in 2020. He last appeared back in April when he defeated Abdul Razak Alhassan via unanimous decision. Overall, he is 5-1 since his professional debut back in 2017. This includes a single defeat to Phil Hawes at UFC 254.
