The Pittsburgh Steelers still need a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger at the quarterback position. Where do the latest rumors suggest they’re leaning?

The Steelers have been connected to every potential quarterback option, from Aaron Rodgers to Jimmy Garoppolo.

Yet, the majority of that noise is from pundits like yours truly. The only true rumors, thus far, are that the Steelers plan to answer their quarterback questions in-house or in the NFL Draft. So stick with me here.

Steelers QB rumors: Is Mason Rudolph the answer?

Steelers fans have seen enough of Rudolph, but the organization could use him as a bridge quarterback. Mark Kaboly of The Athletic (paywall) suggested ‘all signs point’ to Rudolph getting the first opportunity, in part because he knows the Steelers system and has sat behind Roethlisberger his entire career.

We’ve seen some flashes from Rudolph, but all in all they’ve been relatively unimpressive. Roethlisberger, however, spoke highly of Rudolph when announcing his retirement:

“He’s smart and he understands what is going on,” Roethlisberger said a few weeks ago. “I think it is just the repetition, and I think he got a lot of reps the last time I didn’t play much two years ago. I think the offseason knowing there is going to be competition for it, I think it will be good for him,” Roethlisberger said.

NFL Draft: Malik Willis makes early impression on Steelers at Senior Bowl

The Steelers didn’t hide their intentions well at the Senior Bowl in Mobile. Both Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert were seen talking to former Liberty quarterback Malik Willis.

Willis and his father have both had conversations with the Steelers, leading many to assume he’s at the top of Pittsburgh’s draft board. The only problem, of course, is that Pittsburgh may have to trade up to select him in the first round. Willis is rising up most draft boards and the Steelers No. 20 pick might not do it.

Steelers rumors: Could Pittsburgh make a trade?

So far, the Steelers haven’t been linked to any quarterbacks outside the organization (minus the NFL Draft). After the Super Bowl, expect the rumor mill to start churning, but for now anything out there is little more than hearsay.

Next. Kenny Pickett already sounds like the next Steelers quarterback. dark
