After struggling with the Indianapolis Colts this past season, it appears we’re in for another offseason of Carson Wentz trade rumors.

When the Indianapolis Colts traded for Carson Wentz, it looked like the former first-round pick was the long-term answer behind center for the team. Now, Wentz may not even be suiting up for the AFC South side come Week 1 next fall.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Wentz could either be traded or released by March 19. If that happens, Wentz would be getting ready to join his third NFL team.

Carson Wentz trade rumors expected to heat up this offseason

Wentz had high expectations with the Colts for 2021, but things ended in nightmare fashion. Indianapolis finished the year 9-8, missing out on the playoffs after they suffered a loss to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17.

In that 26-11 loss, Wentz threw for only 185 yards, one touchdown and one interception. From the moment that game ended, Colts supporters were calling for the team to get rid of Wentz as the starter.

While Wentz did throw for 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns and only seven interceptions this season, he struggled mightily with consistency throughout the year. There were several times where Wentz would have all day in the pocket and then sail a throw intended for an open receiver.

With the Colts having until March 19 to decide what to do with Wentz – he’ll land $15 million in guaranteed salary for next year if he’s still on the roster – Mortensen’s sources are telling him that the team could end up moving on and starting fresh with a new signal-caller for 2022. We’ll find out soon enough what happens with Wentz and the Colts, but it looks like the writing is on the wall for him.
