Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is ready to get back to work after watching the Bengals lose to the Rams in Super Bowl 56.

Mahomes and Co. lost to the Bengals in the AFC Championship game, which was a relative surprise given they held a double-digit first half lead. Yet, Mahomes made some costly mistakes in the second half and the Chiefs’ defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed, let alone Joe Burrow.

While the rest of America watched Burrow’s Bengals lose in the waning minutes to Matthew Stafford’s Los Angeles Rams, Mahomes must have been fuming knowing how close his Chiefs team was to reaching the pinnacle of the sport yet again.

The Texas Tech product is ready for another chance.

Patrick Mahomes: Time to go to work

Mahomes wasn’t the only Kansas City Chief chirping after the Super Bowl, as defensive end Chris Jones virtually guaranteed that his team would be representing the AFC next season. While Jones and Mahomes made the Pro Bowl this past season, playing in a meaningless Las Vegas exhibition clearly isn’t their ultimate goal.

After Kansas City’s loss to Cincinnati, Mahomes opened up and projected what we all already knew. The fact he was willing to take responsibility for his poor effort shows he’s not lacking maturity.

“I’ve got to be better,” Mahomes said. “We were up 21-3. We have to win that game. I put that on myself.”

Mahomes didn’t blame the poor second half on himself, instead giving the Bengals defense some credit.

“They had a spy on me,” Mahomes said. “They had a good game plan, and we were getting a lot of similar things as we did in the first half. But we were executing at a higher level then than we did later on.”

That game plan eventually paid off, as Cincinnati completed an unforgettable comeback to make the Super Bowl. For Mahomes, it’s a lesson on how to get better, though he has to put in the work.

That work starts now.
