Valentine’s Day has passed, but don’t tell that to Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews, who defended their relationship on Twitter.

Mahomes and Matthews attended a basketball game at Texas Tech, Mahomes’ alma mater, on Wednesday night. The pair were shown on television in the middle of what appeared to be an awkward moment.

Much was made of nothing on social media — as is typically the case — and Mahomes felt the need to step out for Matthews.

Whether the two were arguing or not, it’s not a reflection on their entire relationship. Social media took it as such, with some accounts even coming after Matthews in the moment.

Obviously, this was taking matters too far. Rather than engaging in that ridiculous public discourse, Mahomes simply tweeted out his love for his fiancée.

Matthews followed shortly thereafter.

Mahomes and Matthews are engaged to be married. They support each other in their personal lives and professional endeavors, which includes Matthews being a regular presence at Kansas City Chiefs games. Matthews went as far as to call out the officials during the Chiefs’ most recent playoff run.

The couple spends much of their time in the public spotlight, which means every disagreement that’s caught on camera is sure to spark the wrong kind of conversation. The pair are human, and just as is the case in any relationship, there are sure to be some awkward moments.

Let them enjoy each other’s company.
