Stop it, Patrick Mahomes didn’t tell anyone in his family to no longer attend Chiefs games

Buckle up, folks are trying to pile more gossip atop the growing pile of phony Patrick Mahomes brother and fiance drama.

When the Kansas City Chiefs lost the AFC Championship Game to the Cincinnati Bengals, we all assumed it meant we wouldn’t hear much about the team until free agency.

As the old saying goes, to assume is to make an ass out of you and me.

Not only have the Chiefs remained in the center of the conversation, but their franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes has also been pelted with the type of celebrity gossip usually reserved for the world of Hollywood.

To be fair, he’s one of the most famous people on the planet so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that his personal life is being mined for tabloid gold. That doesn’t mean it’s right or that any of the fodder folks have been chewing on recently has any meat on the bone.

Mahomes has been subjected to a trifecta of dramatic scandals that neither have been confirmed nor are really as scandalous as advertised. First, there was a since-deleted rumor that he and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy got into an altercation during halftime of the AFC title game. Then there was the footage of Mahomes and his fiance Brittney Matthews — I think passively arguing? — courtside during a Texas Tech basketball game.

Now the grapevine is claiming Mahomes is pulling an Aaron Rodgers and distancing himself from his family — at least during work hours.

Patrick Mahomes brother and fiance told not to come to Chiefs games

According to Fox Sports Radio host and former NFL player Rich Ohrnberger, the drama within Mahomes’ circle has gotten to the point where he’s asked members of his immediate family to stop attending games.

“Another interesting note, I’ve been [sic] told Patrick Mahomes had a sit down following the season with his brother and fiancé. Ultimately it concluded with him asking them to not attend any games this upcoming season,” Ohrnberger tweeted on Friday.

“Not surprisingly,” he continued. “Mahomes believes that Jackson and Brittany have become a distraction, and their sideline antics are bad for his brand. A lot can change over an offseason, but for now, that’s the story as it was told to me.”

For those out of the loop — or smart enough to ignore the white noise of drama — this stems from a season-long storyline in which Mahomes’ TikTok star brother would dance on the sideline before games and dump water on fans of opposing teams that beat the Chiefs. Matthews has been vocal on social media reacting to games, something that millions of fans are apparently allowed to do but the wife of the most famous player in football is not.

Turns out the Rich Ohrnberger report isn’t accurate

Not long after the story went viral, Ohrnberger deleted his tweets and claimed he had been duped by a phony source. The tweets are gone, but the damage and unnecessary stress they caused don’t go away once the cause gets scrubbed from Twitter. It’s Trolling 101, and it’s absolutely wrong.

Look, this is all getting to be a bit much. I’m not even a Chiefs fan and I find myself rolling my eyes both at this and the growing urge to create drama around the Mahomes family. But you don’t have to be a Chiefs fan to recognize that this is both deeply stupid and crossing a major line. We all love a bit of gossip, but the stuff with the Mahomes family has crossed more than a few lines and is just getting weird.

Are we expected to believe that everything is always hunky-dory? No.

Does that mean that every little piece of internet gossip should be taken as gospel? Absolutely not. In fact, this latest attempt to latch onto Mahomes for *engagement* was totally bunk.

It’s gotten to the point where Mahomes himself is responding to the harassment:

This is all getting way out of control. Just because someone is in the public eye or is a celebrity doesn’t give anyone the right to harass them.

Leave these people alone and stop bullying them, full stop.

We all love a little gossip but the weight this puts on the mental health of those who are getting stones thrown at them is impossible to measure. It’s to the point where unless we hear something directly from Mahomes or those around him, any piece of gossip should be taken as such, as well as with a handful of salt.
