Here are three teams that should call the Carolina Panthers about a trade for star running back Christian McCaffrey.

The Carolina Panthers are entering yet another offseason where they missed out on the playoffs. Carolina has an obvious need at quarterback and has $17 million in cap space at their disposal. But, if they want to free up additional money, there is the possibility they move a star in running back Christian McCaffrey.

During an appearance of SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, Spotrac co-founder Michael Ginnitti said he thinks there is a real possibility that McCaffrey gets moved by the Panthers this offseason.

Of course, whether this actually happens or not remains to be seen. But, it will get you thinking about the possible destinations.

McCaffrey is entering the first year of his four-year, $64 million contract with the Panthers. Over the past two seasons, the running back dealt with numerous injuries that limited him to just 10 games over that span.

Even with the injury concerns, McCaffrey’s upside could be enticing for teams that are either in desperate need for a running back, or look to capitalize on their championship window.

Here are three teams that should give the Panthers a call about McCaffrey.

When it comes to who has the most cap space in the NFL, that is the Miami Dolphins. they have over $62 million in space to work with entering the 2022 league year. If one thing was evident this past season, it is that the Dolphins definitely need to improve their running game.

Miami averaged 92.2 rushing yards per game, which is the third-fewest in the NFL. The only teams to have a worse average are the Atlanta Falcons (85.4) and Houston Texans (83.6).

The Dolphins are devoted to Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback, and he is going to need some help to succeed. Adding McCaffrey to the backfield, where he can run and catch passes from Tagovailoa. Plus, McCaffrey will work with new head coach Mike McDaniel, who was the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, whose running offense helped them reach the NFC Championship Game this past season.

Miami has the cap space to fit McCaffrey’s contract. It would be a good fit, because of the Dolphins’ need at the position.
