Charlotte Hornets guard James Bouknight gets kicked out of the UConn-Xavier basketball game, only to return a little bit later as a man of the people in the UConn student section.

James Bouknight might be an anonymous player on the Charlotte Hornets, but he is a living legend in Storrs, Connecticut among the UConn faithful.

While relaxing a bit and catching a game at his alma mater during the NBA All-Star break, the Hornets guard was ejected from his courtside seats. He clearly got under the referee’s skin, but got all of the Gampel Pavilion crowd fired up during Saturday afternoon’s Big East game vs. the Xavier Musketeers. Without question, this catapulted the Huskies to an easy victory over Xavier.

Here is Bouknight getting tossed from the game like the hero that he is.

While it looked like he was gone from the premises for sure, that turned out to be a total lie.

Bouknight returned to the UConn student section because he is a man of the people.

James Bouknight gets tossed from UConn-Xavier game, returns as a legend

You never know when you are part of history, part of something great. Though they write stories about people in the game and not at the game, an exception to the narrative was made on the finest of February Saturdays. When people talk about the UConn-Xavier game many years from now, the biggest takeaway will be Bouknight joining that rocking party up in the student section.

Bouknight was not the first person ejected from an establishment as a patron, nor will he be the last. But what he did at Gampel Pavilion is the stuff these 18 to 23-year-olds will talk about over an adult beverage or two decades from now. While he was taking millions and millions of dollars of Michael Jordan’s money in Charlotte, Bouknight returned to Storrs to be the man of his people.

These are the acts of great courage that require statues to be erected in these heroes’ likenesses.
