The Daytona 500 is Sunday afternoon, as NASCAR’s biggest race takes centerstage in Florida. Here’s everything you need to know.

The 2022 Daytona 500 will make history, as there are four teams with Black owners. The sport has marked it as a significant milestone, and a trend they hopes continues for a sport open to diversity.

“It’s significant,” said Brad Daugherty, a former NBA player, per the Charlotte Observer. “I’m proud to be a part of this small group that I hope continues to grow and become larger as we go forward, not only with African Americans, but with women. I would love to see more women have opportunities to be owners and be part of this collective effort to climb into the 21st century.”

Daytona 500 stage 1 results

Martin Truex won Stage 1 of the Dayton 500.

The biggest crash in Stage 1 happened in the 62nd lap, with Harrison Burton losing control of his car. One of the drivers involved in said crash, William Byron, commented on the incident afterward.

“Nothing I could really do,” William Byron said. “Sucks that I was along for the ride.”
