WWE reportedly ‘seriously considered’ other WrestleMania 38 plans involving Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

WrestleMania 38 is the next premium live event for WWE after the conclusion of the Elimination Chamber event. Two major Women’s Championship matches are officially set, as Becky Lynch defends her Raw title against Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair looks to retain her SmackDown title against Ronda Rousey. But, WWE reportedly had different plans at WrestleMania for Lynch and Flair.

According to GiveMeSports’ Louis Dangoor, WWE “seriously considered” having a main event, fatal-four-way match between Lynch, Flair, Sasha Banks and Bayley for night one of WrestleMania 38. Those plans were discussed back in November and early-December.

WWE ‘seriously considered’ a ‘Four Horsewomen’ match for WrestleMania 38 main event

A bout between Lynch, Flair, Banks and Bayley, collectively known as the “Four Horsewomen,” at WrestleMania has long been considered a dream match. But what caused those plans to change?

Dangoor notes that Rousey informing WWE that she would be able to return for WrestleMania, and a desire from some in the company to conclude the Becky Lynch-Bianca Belair storyline, both played factors in the company moving away from the “Four Horsewomen” match. But, Dangoor says that WWE is planning to have the match somewhere down the line.

Rousey returned as a surprise entrant in the Women’s Royal Rumble match as the No. 28 entrant, and won after last eliminating Flair to earn a main event title match at WrestleMania. On the Friday Night SmackDown following the Royal Rumble, Rousey challenged Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

The Lynch-Belair storyline began back at SummerSlam 2021 when Banks, Belair’s original opponent, was unable to compete at the event. Lycnh made her shock return for an impromptu match and defeated Belair in a matter of seconds to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Belair tried to regain the title at Extreme Rules 2021, but Banks interfered to cause a disqualification. At Crown Jewel 2021, Lynch retained her championship after pinning Banks in a triple threat match also including Belair.

At Elimination Chamber 2021, Belair defeated Alexa Bliss, Rhea Ripley, Liv Morgan, Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H. to earn a Raw Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 38. That match was set after Lynch defeated Hall of Famer Lita to retain the Raw Women’s Championship. Now, Belair has the chance to take the title back from Lynch on “the Grandest Stage of Them All.”
