5 targets for Broncos in 2022 NFL free agency
By John Buhler
For the time being, Teddy Bridgewater serves a purpose as a bridge quarterback
This might sound a tad controversial, but it would serve the Broncos to bring back Teddy Bridgewater in his free agency. They know they can win games with him under center, as he is one of the very best backups in the league. Denver may have loftier aspirations at the position beyond what Teddy Two Gloves can provide, but at the very least, he gives the team a floor at quarterback.
With Drew Lock entering the final year on his rookie deal, it feels like that has already ran its course. He is who he is and he is not the guy for the Broncos. Though Denver is in a position to draft a quarterback this spring, this is not the draft to do it in. There is no bona-fide A prospect coming out. Plus, the Broncos will 100 percent screw it up if left to their own devices in the draft.
So while they look to orchestrate a trade for a more proven high-end NFL starter, Bridgewater can ensure Broncos Country that the team will at least not be terrible at quarterback. It may only be on a one-year deal, but you can win games with him under center. Given the Broncos’ cap situation, how sure are we they will let a top-five free-agent quarterback walk out the door for nothing?
The value of having a top-five backup quarterback in the league is something worth investing in.
