5 landing spots for Mike Gesicki in 2022 NFL free agency
By John Buhler
If the Arizona Cardinals do not bring back Zach Ertz, Mike Gesicki could work
A potential dark horse to end up landing Gesicki in his free agency would have to be the Arizona Cardinals. This team finally arrived this past season as the last undefeated team in the league. Though they exited the NFC playoffs prematurely and with a whimper, there is a lot to like about this team on both sides of the ball. They could also be looking for a long-term solution at tight end.
For Gesicki to potentially join the Cardinals, that would require Zach Ertz to walk in his free agency. Keep in mind that he came over midseason by way of the Eagles. Though he had his moments in the Valley of the Sun, Ertz could have a robust market in his free agency after briefly reinventing himself in Arizona. That could allow a player who is not as accomplished as him to take over there.
Of course, Arizona is not in a great spot with the salary cap, so that will make things hard to spend presumably top-dollar on Gesicki’s services. It should also be noted that Kyler Murray has been nothing short of a conundrum this offseason. Not only that, but head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s seat could get mighty toasty if Arizona does not win enough, or if Murray leaves for whatever reason.
From a simple fit standpoint, Gesicki makes sense in Arizona if Ertz is not returning to Glendale.
