Braves: Latest Freddie Freeman report should make fans furious
Unfortunately for Atlanta Braves fans, it’s looking less and less likely that Freddie Freeman will be back with the team next season.
Have the Atlanta Braves faithful seen the last of star first baseman Freddie Freeman with the club? Things are trending in that direction. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the growing belief is that Freeman won’t resign with the reigning World Series champs.
According to Olney’s sources, the Braves offered Freeman a five-year deal worth $135 million. Freeman turned that down, as he was hoping to get a six-year contract. With the two at a stand still contract wise, Atlanta could look elsewhere for someone to man first base.
The Atlanta Braves and Freddie Freeman couldn’t get a deal done before the lockout
The Braves clearly were hoping to get something done with Freeman before the MLB lockout started, but that extra year for the deal is where they couldn’t agree on. Freeman indeed wanted that six-year offer, but Atlanta was set on five years.
Looking ahead to the 2022 campaign, the general feeling is that Freeman will suit up for a new team. The New York Yankees have reportedly been eyeing him for a while, which would make sense. New York is hoping to still make a splash in free agency, with Carlos Correa also being an option for the Bronx Bombers.
With Freeman, though, the last thing Atlanta supporters want to see is for him to play elsewhere. He’s been a superstar for the club since making his debut in 2021. Since then, Freeman has been to the All-Star Game five times, won the MVP once and helped the team capture the World Series glory as well. His future is up in the air, but a reunion with Atlanta could be a long shot at this point.
