Michael Gallup is the type of good player the Cowboys cannot pay great money to

One of the biggest things that has hurt the Cowboys in recent years if the front office’s willingness to pay good players great money. The Cowboys are incredibly loyal to their guys, often to their own detriment. Gallup has been solid in a Cowboys uniform, but he is certainly going to command more than Dallas can afford to pay him in free agency. Therefore, they will have to let Gallup walk.

Dallas has an emerging star at wide receiver still on his rookie contract in CeeDee Lamb. While it remains to be seen what the Cowboys’ plans are for Amari Cooper, they have to pick between him, Gallup and Schultz, as maybe only two of them return. Given the Cowboys’ awful cap situation, it may only be one of these three pass catchers in question. This is why Lamb has to be a superstar.

As with Gregory and Schultz, Dallas should not have to pay the price for making savvy draft picks. Until Bird Rights are a thing in the NFL, that is how the cookie crumbles. The good news is the Cowboys do a better job than most teams in evaluating talent entering in the NFL Draft. That is why they cannot continue to pay good players like Gallup great money to stick with the Cowboys.

Dallas is better served to draft the next Gallup than overpaying him for what he has already been.
