Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy handed Ohio State bulletin board material by talking about the Wolverine’s record against the Buckeyes.

Going into the 2021 edition of The Big Game, Ohio State had won eight-straight games against Michigan football spanning nine years.

The Wolverines finally broke through with a victory in 2021 en route to their Big Ten title.

What was done in 2021 is done. Now it’s on to 2022 and already the talk about the rivalry game is producing bulletin board material.

During an interview with Wolverine Digest, quarterback J.J. McCarthy said something specific that got Buckeye’s blood boiling.

Michigan football QB: “All we know is beating Ohio State”

“For us, the whole 10-year stretch of not beating Ohio State, that’s all we know is beating Ohio State right now. So we’re going to keep that going,” McCarthy said.

Ohio State fans had a field day with McCarthy’s comments on Twitter.

McCarthy was a freshman during the 2021 season, so he is undefeated against Ohio State in his Michigan career.

However, it’s a bit bold for him to be talking about the rivalry like that when it wasn’t his start. He served as a backup to Cade McNamara and threw one pass during the win over Ohio State while rushing twice for 12 yards.

McCarthy will get the chance to compete for the starting job again in 2022 but there is no guarantee he’ll unseat the incumbent this time. Maybe he shouldn’t be getting ahead of himself on this one.

Confidence in a quarterback is essential to winning so Michigan fans may love the comments. It’s just never a good idea to hand a rival extra motivation.
